I must confess, that “Mazel Tov” is my favorite heirloom tray. A traditional Jewish wedding includes the breaking of a glass by the groom under the Chuppah (canopy) to represent the end of the ceremony, as well as being a symbolic reminder of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem. It also represents the fragility of life and relationships signaling that a marriage requires care and attention. Modern day weddings allow the couple to both break the glass, or each can stomp on their own glass. My daughter and her now husband both break a glass. In the case of this tray, the memories include the blue glass that was broken and a white plate broken at the reception.
