“Crystal Blue”

“Crystal Blue” is my new creative way to preserve family memories. Last year, I received an email from a woman who wanted to preserve her grandmother’s crystal. She had a few broken glasses and a few glasses still intact. The glasses were not usable but certainly not discardable. She regaled me with stories of how she remembered sitting at her grandparents table eating holiday meals and drinking from the beautiful crystal glasses. After discussions with the grandaughter, we decided to use a clear acrylic tray with silver handles. The dilemma for me was how to highlight the crystal on an equally clear tray. Her favorite color was blue, so I added blue pigment to the clear resin. I broke the crystal into many pieces, but large enough to to know they had been glasses. The tray was then ultimately protected by a clear layer of resin to allow so many memories to live forever.
